Hai, Sobat MICROBES! Kalian pasti sudah tidak asing lagi bukan dengan yang namanya perban luka? Ya, perban luka tentunya sering digunakan dalam menangani luka seperti luka bakar dan luka kronis. Umumnya, dalam proses pengobatan, kita harus memeriksa luka tersebut secara berkala dengan cara mengganti perban luka tersebut secara rutin. Hal ini tentunya memperbesar peluang terjadinya infeksi oleh bakteri. Dilatarbelakangi hal itu, para peneliti dari RMIT University mengembangkan perban luka pintar dengan teknologi terkini untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut, yakni diamond-studded silk wound dressing.
Diamond-studded silk wound dressing merupakan perban luka yang menggunakan proses electrospinning untuk membentuk nanodiamonds dan menanamkannya ke dalam serat sutra sebagai bahan pembuatan perban luka pintar ini. Dengan adanya teknologi ini, tanda-tanda infeksi awal pada luka dapat terdeteksi dan luka dapat terlindungi dari bakteri-bakteri yang dapat menyebabkan infeksi. Hal ini dikarenakan perban tersebut memiliki nanodiamonds yang dapat mendeteksi suhu tubuh secara tepat dan akurat sehingga dapat mendeteksi adanya infeksi. Selain itu, perban luka pintar ini memiliki nanodiamonds silk membrane yang bersifat antibakteri sehingga menghindari terjadinya infeksi bakteri pada luka. Kelebihan lainnya yang dimiliki oleh perban luka pintar ini adalah dapat menjaga aliran oksigen dan nutrisi ke area luka tersebut.
Dengan diciptakannya Diamond-studded silk wound dressing ini, diperkirakan dapat meningkatkan penyembuhan pada luka dan mengurangi biaya dalam perawatan luka. Kemampuan dari perban luka pintar ini dalam mendeteksi infeksi dapat memberikan dampak positif yaitu perban tersebut tidak perlu diganti secara berkala dimana pada umumnya, pasien harus mengganti perban secara berkala yang menimbulkan rasa sakit saat membuka dan memasang perban baru serta memperbesar peluang terjadinya infeksi bakteri. Dengan demikian, hal ini dapat meningkatkan penyembuhan luka. Selain itu, penggunaan perban luka pintar ini juga dapat mengurangi biaya yang dikeluarkan dalam perawatan luka karena tidak perlu mengganti perban secara berkala.
